Who is Anne Tait?
Anne Tait grew up in Akron Ohio. She studied literature and art history at Bowling Green State University where she received a BA. Later, after working in the field of historic preservation and working as a calligrapher, she returned to school to study printmaking at Rhode Island School of Design where she received her BFA in 1994. She studied painting at American University in Washington, receiving her MFA in 1997. She is presently an Assistant Professor of Art at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode island. Her work, oil paintings done in layers of oil glazes of translucent color on tondi (round paintings), expose a sinewy eccentric world of floating forms that push the picture plane in an intentionally disorientating setting, intending the purposeful subterfuge to be both mysterious and comedic.
An anonymous comment from the guest book in a recent exhibit held here in Providence wrote:.
“Very beautiful. they look as fragile as ceramics,
as subtle as a membrane.”She can be contacted at atait@rwu.edu.
Ms. Tait has accompanied Mr. Wood on many urinal pilgrimages, including two trips to Staten Island in the fall.
