What is the Longest Urinal in the World?
The Longest Urinal in the World is an offset lithographic and letterpress print project by Dan Wood. Based on the longest (known) urinal in the world, built by Royal Flush, Inc. for the New York City Marathon, the print consists of a trifold booklet, in a letterpress and die cut envelope, of photo-offset images and letterpress type. The images include detailed views of both the spout and drain section of the urinal, as well as an all encompassing, fold out image of the urinal trough. The print has a brief colophon page by the artist describing this particular urinal and its historical context (noting the lack of a similar structure for the 10,000 plus female runners), as well as the printing techniques used in the print. Taking the Longest Urinal as its subject, the print is also an example and examination of modern offset lithographic and color reproduction techniques, and the use of this process (familiar to the general public in the form of newspapers, glossy magazines, etc.) in the hands of an artist.
